Wolf Eyes
Originally formed in Ann Arbor and Detroit in 1995 and formerly on the Sub Pop label (Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc), Wolf Eyes is now on Jack White’s Third Man label (see below). Wolf Eyes is generally credited with creating the entire “Noise” genre of popular music.
Windy & Carl
Cited as “A leading light of the Michigan space-rock scene” by Allmusic, the minimalist group Windy & Carl formed in 1993 around the core husband-and-wife duo of guitarist Carl Hultgren and bassist/singer Windy Weber. Their music borrows heavily from the sounds of 1980s era bands like Cocteau Twins and other “dream pop” and “shoegazer” acts.
Aaron Dilloway
An experimental musician and composer originally from Brighton, Michigan who works with the manipulation of 8-Track tape loops in combination with voice, tape delays and various organic and electronic sound sources. A founding member of the industrial noise group Wolf Eyes, Dilloway now resides in Oberlin, Ohio where he runs Hanson Records and Mailorder.
Jack White, Third Man Records, and Subpop
Jack White is an internationally-recognized indy musician, formerly half of White Stripes, which was on the label Subpop, which was home to Nirvana, Soundgarden, and literally dozens of other noted acts. White has used his status to create his own label, Third Man Records, and remains very visible in the pop music press as of mid-2016
